GENERATION GAP?

PLATFORM 1660 asks what moves different generations? Elderly hardly have any contact with teenagers. An important obstruction is a communication gap between the generations. PLATFORM 1660 wants to bridge this gap by bringing young and old together on the dance floor.

A DIALOGUE IN BODYLANGUAGE

PLATFORM 1660 wants to challenge age prejudices by bringing old and young together in a dialogue of movement, word and dance. The artistic leaders developed a new methodology for this: dance dialogue. The idea behind this is that movement and body language can improve contact where words often make the distance bigger.

PLATFORM 1660 IN AMSTERDAM ZUIDOOST

PLATFORM 1660 started as a pilot in February 2010 in the Bijlmer Parktheater in Amsterdam South East. The South East is the youngest city part of Amsterdam with a growing aging population. Young and old will increasingly meet in this part of the city as in many places in the Netherlands.

CONFIDENCE AND COMMUNITY

50 Participants, aged between 14 and 70, meet weekly on the dance floor for 3 months. The group is not only diverse in age, but also in cultural background. With growing confidence they challenge personal boundaries and deepen their contact. A strong group of young and old dancers grows from these exchanges. They shine during a performance in the Bijlmer Parktheater and on some smaller location performances and workshops.
